The General toolset has tools that allow for aggregation of features, as well as provide simple semantic changes. Feature aggregation can be performed using either the Append or the Merge tool. Semantic changes can be performed using the copy, delete, and rename data tools. The toolset also includes the Select Data tool, which is used in ModelBuilder to find the children of a parent dataset.

The following table lists the tools available in the General toolset and provides a brief description of each.

Tool Description
Append Appends multiple input features to a target feature class.
Copy Copies the specified feature class, including all associated files and linked data sources.
Delete Deletes the specified feature class, including all associated files and linked data sources.
Rename Changes the name of an existing feature class.
Select Data This tool is intended for use in ModelBuilder. The tool's output always includes the full path to the child dataset.
Merge Combines input features from multiple input sources (of the same data type) into a single new output feature class. The input data sources may be point, line, or polygon feature classes, or tables.
