Map Attribution and Description
Use the Attribution text box to enter any information pertaining to the lineage, copyright, and permissions of the map. If you want this information to be presented when the map is opened, add it to the Description field either in the form of text or included with other information at a URL. The Description field can contain plain text, HTML markup, or a URL; it follows the same conventions as text you enter in a popup window. You can display the contents of the Description field when the map is opened by choosing Show map description in the When the Map Opens section. To edit the text of the Description click the Edit... button.

When the Map Opens
The When the Map Opens options control what happens when the map is opened. You can choose to display the Map Description or to display the map directly as a Presentation. Note that the Start presentation setting applies only when you open the map by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer and ArcGIS Explorer is not already running. If you choose None, no action related to these properties will occur at startup; however any text in the Attribution and Description text boxes is retained on the General page and may be viewed by opening the Map Properties dialog.
