Notes represent items on the map and may have additional content associated with them that can be displayed in an associated popup window. A note can be either a point, a line, or a polygon (area, circle, rectangle or arrow). You can use the controls in the Create group on the Home tab to create notes. In addition notes may be created when you use a control, such as Find or an Add-In, and you add the item to the map.

If you double-click the note title in the Contents window or double-click the note on the map, ArcGIS Explorer selects the note, moves to the note’s location, and displays the contextual tabs appropriate to notes.

The following table summarizes the actions you can perform on a note; the controls are present on the Tools tab and/or on the context menu that appears when you right-click a note. In addition, some of these controls are present at the bottom of a note's popup window.
