About importing feature datasets, classes, and tables

You import entire feature datasets, feature classes, or tables with the Import XML Workspace Document wizard. You can also import schema without any data.

To import from an XML workspace, one must first be created by exporting data from a geodatabase, feature dataset, table, or feature class.

Learn more about exporting to an XML workspace.

How to import feature datasets, classes, and tables

  1. In the ArcCatalog tree, right-click the geodatabase into which you want to import and point to Import.
  2. Click XML Workspace Document.
  3. If you want to import schema and data, click Data.
  4. If you want to import schema without any records from the feature classes and tables, click Schema Only.

  5. Navigate to the XML workspace file from which you want to import data. You can import from an XML, ZIP, or Z file type.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Any naming conflicts display in red. To change a suggested name in the Target Name column, type over it.
  8. If you are importing into a file or ArcSDE geodatabase and want to use a configuration keyword, select one from the drop-down list in the Config Keyword column.
  9. Click Finish to import the data.
