Compatibility statement

In the past, more than one WMS Connector was available for use with ArcIMS. The following table summarizes compatibility and support for the WMS Connector with ArcIMS 9.0 SP3 and earlier.

  ArcIMS Version
WMS Connector version
4.0.1

9.0

9.0 SP1

9.0 SP2/
9.0.1
9.0 SP3
4.0.1 WMS Connector X
WMS Connector for ArcIMS 4.0.1 from the ESRI Interoperability Page X
9.0 WMS Connector   X X X
9.0 SP2/9.0.1/9.0 SP3 WMS Connector       X X

Beginning with ArcIMS 9.1, the WMS Connector version and the ArcIMS version must match. The WMS Connector installed with ArcIMS is the only supported version.

Using multiple versions of the WMS Connector

Your site can host multiple versions of the WMS Connector if:

  1. Each connector has a unique URL reference. Common URLs for the WMS Connector are:

URL for the WMS Connector for ArcIMS 9.0 SP2, 9.0.1, and 9.1 or higher:

    http://<hostname>/<deploy_name>/com.esri.wms.Esrimap?CMD=connectorPing

For more information on the URL and the connectorPing command, see Using the WMS Connector Administrator, Enable WMS.

URL for all versions of the WMS Connector that shipped with ArcIMS 3.x, 4.x, and 9.0:

    http://<hostname>/servlet/com.esri.wms.Esrimap?CMD=connectorPing

URL for WMS Connector for ArcIMS 4.0.1 available from the ESRI Interoperability Page:

    http://<hostname>/wmsconnector/com.esri.wsit.WMSServlet?CMD=connectorPing
  2. Each WMS Connector has a unique Capabilities directory. For example, if the Capabilities directory for one version of the WMS Connector on Windows is c:\arcims\wms, then a different directory name should be used for ArcIMS 9.2 such as c:\arcims\wms_92. For more information on naming the Capabilities directory, see Using the WMS Connector Administrator, Capabilities Directory.
