When you browse to the GIS Servers folder in ArcCatalog, you can connect to three kinds of servers:



Each server has its own unique set of services that it provides.

ArcIMS services



Service type Description
ArcIMS Image service icon Image A map layer that you can view in ArcMap and ArcGlobe.

Service type Description
Map service icon Map A map layer that you can view in ArcMap and ArcGlobe.

Locator icon Geocode Returns a feature based upon an address or other text description.

Toolbox icon Geoprocessing A geoprocessing toolbox that provides tools that execute on the server.
