The following is a list of the most common license manager problems, their typical causes, and steps for resolving them. If you are experiencing a problem not included in this list, contact your license server administrator. The license server administrator should refer to the License Manager Reference Guide located on the CD's Documentation folder or on the license manager machine by pointing to Start > (All) Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager (9.x) > License Manager Reference Guide.
ArcInfo, ArcEditor, ArcView (Floating), and all their software extensions require the use of a floating license manager. To open the applications, the License Manager you are referencing must include a valid product feature and have a license available for checkout.
Use the Desktop Administrator to check license availability, view and change the license manager, and set the software product.

When an ArcGIS software product application is opened, a license is requested from the license manager for the software product (ArcInfo, ArcEditor, ArcView) you are using. This message indicates that you have valid licenses to use this product feature, but all licenses are currently being used by others in your organization.
Use the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator to view the license status of the license manager you are currently using. Contact your license server administrator to obtain additional licenses for the product you need.

Many licenses have an associated time-out date. For example, evaluation copies of the software have time-out dates. A series of warning messages display starting 15 days before your license expires. Contact your license server administrator if you see these messages or if your license has expired.
Use the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator to view the license time-out date.

The application could not connect to the ArcGIS License Manager. There are several possible causes for this problem; all related to the license server. Contact your license server administrator for assistance.
All open ArcGIS software applications maintain a connection with the License Manager server. If the application loses its connection (the server goes down), a message is displayed. A reconnection attempt is made two minutes after you click OK on the message. This process is repeated five times. If, after five attempts, the application still cannot connect to the license server, the application closes.
There are several possible causes for this error message, all related to the license server. When you see this message, save your work immediately and contact your license server administrator for assistance.
This message is displayed for ArcView, ArcEditor (Single Use), and their extensions that are not registered. ArcView, ArcEditor (Single Use), and extensions do not require the use of a license manager but must be registered and authorized for use. Use the registration wizard available from the Desktop Administrator to assist you in submitting your registration information to ESRI.
