Domains offer a way to define a range of values that can be used for multiple attribute fields. Using domains helps ensure data integrity by limiting the choice of values for a particular field. Validation for coded value domains is accomplished by restricting the user to choose field values from a dropdown list. Range domains are automatically validated during editing.

The following table lists the tools available in the Domains toolset and provides a brief description of each.

NOTE: Tool availability is determined by the ArcGIS license. Licensing requirements for each tool are listed below.


Tool Description
Add Coded Value To Domain Adds a value to a domain's coded value list. Available with any ArcGIS license.
Assign Domain To Field Sets the domain for a particular field and optionally for a subtype. Available with any ArcGIS license.
Create Domain Creates an attribute domain in the specified workspace. Available with any ArcGIS license.
Delete Coded Value From Domain Removes a value from a coded value domain. Available with any ArcGIS license.
Delete Domain Deletes a domain from a workspace. Available with any ArcGIS license.
Domain To Table Creates a table from an attribute domain. Available with any ArcGIS license.
Remove Domain From Field Removes an attribute domain association from a feature class field. Available with any ArcGIS license.
Set Value For Range Domain Sets the minimum and maximum values for an existing range domain. Available with any ArcGIS license.
Table To Domain Updates a coded value domain with values from a table. Available with any ArcGIS license.
