The Mapping Clusters tools are used for cluster analysis: to identify the locations of statistically significant hot spots or spatial outliers. Mapping clusters is particularly useful when action is needed based on the location of one or more clusters. An example would be the assignment of additional officers to deal with a cluster of burglaries. The location of a cluster is also important when looking for the causes of clustering, such as when analyzing a cluster of cases of a virus to find the cause of the outbreak. Unlike the methods for identifying overall patterns (that is, tools in the Analyzing Patterns toolset) that produce summary statistics, the Mapping Clusters tools allow visualization of the location and extent of spatial clusters of features or spatial outliers.
The following table lists the tools available and provides a brief description of each.

Tool | Description |
Cluster and Outlier Analysis | Given a set of weighted features, identifies both clusters of points with values similar in magnitude and clusters of points with very heterogeneous values. Available with any ArcGIS license. |
Cluster and Outlier Analysis with Rendering | Given a set of weighted features, identifies both clusters of features with values similar in magnitude and clusters of features with very heterogeneous values. The tool then applies a cold-to-hot type of rendering. Available with any ArcGIS license. |
Hot Spot Analysis | Given a set of weighted features, identifies clusters of features with high values and clusters of features with low values. Available with any ArcGIS license. |
Hot Spot Analysis with Rendering | Given a set of weighted features, identifies clusters of features with high values and clusters of features with low values. The tool then applies a cold-to-hot type of rendering to the output Z scores. Available with any ArcGIS license. |
