About splitting features into COGO lines

A COGO line is a feature that is either completely straight or completely circular. COGO lines are created when you use a number of the commands when editing. Sometimes you will want to convert lines with many segments into COGO lines. These lines may have been imported from a CAD file, created with the Create Feature Line task, and so on. You can use the Split Into COGO Lines command to do this.

Each selected line feature is split at every vertex, creating a new feature for every segment. If the target feature layer is the same as the selected features, the existing features are split. If the target feature layer is different, new features are created in the target feature layer. If the target feature layer has COGO fields, they are automatically populated with the COGO values of each feature's geometry.

How to use the Split Into COGO Lines command

  1. Click the Edit tool Edit.
  2. Select the lines you want to split into COGO lines. These lines could be in a non-editable feature class, for example a CAD dataset.
  3. On the COGO toolbar, click the Split Into COGO Lines button Split into COGO lines.
