Once you have added the city hall symbol to the scene, you may find it useful to add a text annotation in the same view. The text graphic element allows one to digitize 2D or 3D text in the scene.

Click View, point to Bookmarks, and click City Hall. Zoom to the roof of City Hall.

Click the Graphics drop-down menu on the 3D Graphics toolbar and click Default Element Properties. Click Text on the Default Element Properties dialog box. The Default Text Element Properties dialog box opens. Click the Text tab. Click Change Symbol to open the Symbol Selector dialog box. Click on the Color drop-down arrow and select Solar Yellow from the Style palette. Holding the mouse over the color displays the color name in the Style palette. Click Ok to close the Symbol Selector dialog box. Click the Effects tab on the Default Text Element Properties dialog box. Uncheck Pin to surface.

The Pin to surface option is useful if you want to fix the text graphic to the underlying globe surface. In this case, we want to digitize the text on the roof of the City Hall.

Click OK to close the Default Text Element properties dialog box. Click OK to close the Default Element Properties dialog box.

Click the New Text tool on the 3D Graphics toolbar. Click on the roof of city hall graphic. Type "City Hall" in the text box and press Enter.

The 2D text appears at the location you clicked.

You can change the font size and position of 2D text in the text's Properties dialog box.
