After making a number of versions and versioned edits to a geodatabase, you will need to compress it to remove unneeded states.

To see when a compress operation was last run on the geodatabase, right-click the geodatabase and click Properties. On the Administration tab, the date of the last compress operation and the status of the geodatabase are listed under the Compress section.
