Once you have created models within, or added scripts to, a toolbox, they can be used just like any of the system tools. They can be added to the ModelBuilder window of another model, run from the command line, or run from another script.
In this exercise you’ll see how to create a new model and add to it the Find Potential Habitat model you saw created in Exercise 4. You’ll clip the result from the Find Potential Habitat model (locations) by using buffer zones you’ll create around the proposed roads to find potential habitats that may be impacted by the proposed roads.
Right-click your My_Analysis_Tools toolbox in the ArcToolbox window, point to New, and click Model.
Click the Find Potential Habitat model inside your My_Analysis_Tools toolbox and drag it into the ModelBuilder window of the new model.
Notice the icon on the Find Potential Habitat tool element indicates that the tool is another model. You can right-click this element and click Edit to open the model inside its ModelBuilder window. You hide the complexity of a larger model by breaking it down into smaller submodels.
