After you have run a series of geoprocessing tools on your data you may want to find out where your representations overlap or are too close together. The Detect Graphic Conflict tool will create a polygon feature class that you can use to visually locate incidents of overlap. In this example you will see how to use this tool to identify the areas where buildings graphically overlap other buildings. This tool is found in the Graphic Quality toolset.
To do so, double-click the Detect Graphic Conflict tool. The tool detects graphic conflicts between feature representations in two input layers. In this example you'll see how to use it to detect graphic conflicts between features in the same layer. Use BuildingP layer.lyr for both the Input Features With Representations and Conflict Features With Representations parameters. Name the output feature class BuildingP_DGC. Type “5” for the Conflict Distance parameter and choose Points from the drop-down list. Type “0” (zero) for the Line Connection Allowance parameter. Click OK to run the tool.
When the tool finishes you will have a polygon feature class that will indicate where features are graphically in conflict with others.
