To open a map
- Click the ArcGIS Explorer Button , and then click Open.
Keyboard shortcut To display the Open dialog box, press Ctrl + O.
- In the Open dialog that appears, browse for an ArcGIS Explorer map file (*.nmf), click the file, and then click Open

- At the right-hand side of the dialog that appears when you click the ArcGIS Explorer Button you'll see a list of Recent Maps. You can double-click any of these maps to open them.
- You can also open an ArcGIS Explorer map in Windows Explorer by double-clicking it. If ArcGIS Explorer is not running, it will start and open the map you select.
- If you've made changes to the current map, and haven't saved those changes prior to opening another map, you'll be prompted.
- If there are broken layers in the map you will be prompted to fix the broken layers when it opens. In the Broken Layers dialog, select the layer that you wish to correct and then click on Repair Layer... to correct the path of the data.
