MetadataServer (deprecated)

The GPT 9.3 MetadataServer is a component deployed as a Windows service that manages communication between the Geoportal and SDE. It created a Publish_Metadata and Browse_Metadata service through which users could connect to ArcCatalog to publish or browse metadata.



In Geoportal 9.3.1, the MetadataServer is no longer necessary. However, if you are upgrading from GPT 9.3 to Geoportal extension 9.3.1, you may want to keep the MetadataServer to facilitate a smooth migration.



The MetadataServer will not be supported in future versions of the Geoportal extension. If your organization will be preparing for future upgrades and version 9.4, then you may decide to install without the MetadataServer.
