Locate an address interactively

Segment 3 of 13

Top  Previous  Next

You can use address locators to find individual addresses while you are working in ArcMap. This process is commonly called geocoding.

There are four main steps to geocode an address interactively. First add the reference data (usually streets) that you want to match the address against. Second, open the Find dialog box and choose the address locator that you want to use. Third, type the address and any other location information in the in the Find dialog box and click Find. Candidate locations appear in a table on the Find dialog box and you can add them to the map (or Flash, Zoom to, Pan to, Create bookmarks for them, among other things). Finally, add the best match candidate to the map.
