In the ArcToolbox window, double-click the Find Impacted Habitat model to open its dialog box.
Click OK to run the model. Turn off all layers in the table of contents except impacted_habitat. Examine the result in the ArcMap display.
These polygons represent habitat locations that would be impacted by the introduction of new roads. Change the symbology of the layer so it draws as red patches.
There is actually only one area of impacted habitat that a proposed road will go directly through. The rest of the impacted areas are close to new roads, but the roads will not travel directly through them. These areas fall within a certain distance from the proposed roads (the buffer distance assigned). They will be impacted by proposed roads, but only by noise and fume pollution.
Turn on the locations layer.
Zoom to the full extent of the map to see all high-quality habitat locations, including those that are impacted by proposed roads.
After an investigation in the field to see if there are indeed gnatcatchers present in the impacted habitat locations, the proposed roads that are planned to be routed through or near these locations will need to be assessed to see if they can be rerouted away from areas of high-quality habitat.
Click File on the Main menu of ArcMap and click Save. Close ArcMap.
This brings you to the end of this tutorial. You should now have the experience to start using your own data and to get your geoprocessing tasks done with greater efficiency and ease.
