You can edit the representation of the shape of features without changing their underlying geometry.
To do so, add the Representation toolbar and the Editor toolbar if they are not already present. Make the layer you want to edit (in this example, BuildingA_Rep) the only selectable layer, and start editing.
Next, using the Select tool on the Representation toolbar, select the feature (in this example it is a building polygon). A rectangular selection box appears around it. Rest the mouse pointer on any corner handle and when the cursor becomes an arrow, click and drag the arrow to resize the building.
You may see the tool change from an arrow symbol to a rotate symbol.
To rotate the representation of the feature, rest the pointer above a corner handle until the cursor becomes a curved arrow. Click and drag to rotate the building.
To edit the shape of the building, click the Direct Select tool on the Representation toolbar. Select one vertex by drawing a box around the vertex with the Direct Select tool. When you have done this, you will notice that only your selected vertex has a solid blue fill, while the other vertices have a white fill. Drag the selected vertex away from the others to reshape the feature, then stop editing and save your edits.
There is a difference between the two selection tools found on the Representation toolbar. The Select tool is used to select whole features and provides options to perform edits on the selected feature or features. The Direct Select tool (white tool) is used to select a part or parts of features and provides options to perform edits on the selected part or parts of the selected feature or features.
If you add the feature class that this representation is based on, you'll see that the geometry of the feature has not changed.
