You can add a folder to the Contents window to help organize the map's contents. Folders provide a means of organizing a map's contents thematically, rather than indicating how the map was built or the order in which its components draw; for example, your map may reflect how your enterprise organizes its assets, say by administrative unit or geographically. A folder may contain other items of a map: layers, notes, views, links, and other folders. You can associate a view with a folder by clicking Set Default View on the Tools tab or Set View in the Folder Properties dialog. You can navigate to the folder's view by clicking Go To on the Tools tab.
The following table summarizes the actions you can perform on a folder; the controls are present on the Tools tab and/or on the context menu that appears when you right-click a folder.
