Overview of Spatial Servers, Virtual Servers, and ArcIMS services |
ArcIMS Administrator and Service Administrator allow you to manage ArcIMS services, Spatial Servers, and Virtual Servers. Both of these applications provide most of the same functionality.
When you start Administrator or Service Administrator for the first time, you are prompted to provide a new user name and password. You are also prompted to confirm your password. After these login credentials are established, you must provide your user name and password each time you start Administrator or Service Administrator. See Creating and changing your password for details on modifying your user name and password or if you have forgotten your password.
After you have made changes to the site configuration by adding or removing services, Virtual Servers, Spatial Servers, or Folders, you should save the configuration. If ArcIMS must be restarted for some reason, the site configuration files recreate the ArcIMS site to its previous state. The primary configuration file is ArcIMSSite.sez. If you are using MapNotes ore EditNotes, a second configuration file named ArcIMSFolders is also created. The location of these files are:
Windows: <ArcGIS Installation Directory>\ArcIMS\AppServer
UNIX and Linux: $AIMSHOME/Middleware/Application_Server
Windows: Click Start | Programs | ArcGIS | ArcIMS | Administrator.
UNIX or Linux: Type aimsadmin at the prompt.
Administrator can be used to administer sites that are hosted on other machines within your network. To access sites on other machines, use the Open Site tool. The other sites must be using the same version of ArcIMS as the machine where Administrator resides.
