How to Register a Repository
If you are a publisher user of the Geoportal and would like the Geoportal to regularly harvest a metadata catalog (repository) that you manage, first you must register the repository in the Geoportal interface.
To register a repository for harvesting, do the following:
- Login to the Geoportal and click on the "Repositories" tab.
- On the next page, click the "Create" link.
- Fill out the information page and click the "Submit" button at the bottom. The repository will be added to the list of registered repositories in the Geoportal. The Geoportal administrator will review when to schedule harvesting for the repository and how to configure the harvest based on the information that you provide. See the table below for notes on each section of the form.
- Once the repository is registered, the Geoportal administrator will need to approve it before the harvesting takes place. An administrator "approves" the document for harvesting when he/she reviews the repository, and proceeds with queuing it. There is no "approval" status; queuing it for harvest means that the Harvest Service will see that it is queued and harvest it at the appropriate time interval.
- After approval, your repository will be queued for harvesting.
-
Note: Even though ArcIMS Browse Metadata services are often exposed through csw end points, it is recommended that the CSW protocol not be used to harvest ArcIMS sites.
| Form Section |
Description |
| Protocol Type and Related Fields |
Select the protocol that your repository uses. There are five options, and different fields will display according to which protocol is chosen. |
| Metadata Ownership |
This drop down list indicates the publisher who will own the records harvested to the Geoportal from this repository. |
| How Often Do You Want This Repository Harvested |
Indicate how often the repository should be scheduled for harvesting. Editing this section does not automatically schedule harvesting for this repository; it simply notifies the Geoportal administrator what the repository's harvest schedule should be. Repositories that have frequent updates or new records should be harvested more often than those that do not update frequently. |
| Email Notification |
Indicate if you prefer to receive a notification email that provides the results of the harvest. You can update your email information by clicking the "My Profile" link at the top right of the Geoportal interface. |
